ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deep Space Climate Observatory

Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) is like a super cool space machine that looks at the weather patterns and climate of our planet Earth. It is very high up in space, much higher than airplanes, and it orbits around the sun, just like Earth.

DSCOVR is like a giant camera, but instead of taking pictures, it takes measurements of Earth's environment. It can see things like how much sunlight is being reflected by Earth, how much heat is trapped in the atmosphere, and how strong the wind is blowing.

Scientists use DSCOVR to help them understand and predict weather patterns and natural disasters like hurricanes and solar storms. They can also learn about how the changing climate is affecting our planet.

DSCOVR is very important because it helps us learn how to take care of our planet better. We want to make sure we have clean air to breathe, fresh water to drink, and healthy food to eat. By studying the climate and weather, we can take steps to protect Earth and make it a better place for everyone to live.
