ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deep carbon cycle

The deep carbon cycle is like an underground factory that recycles things. It starts deep inside the Earth's crust and mantle, where there is hot liquid rock and gases. The deep carbon cycle moves carbon through this layer of the Earth. The carbon travels from the rocks in the Earth's mantle to the surface, where it becomes things like carbon dioxide (CO2) gas or organic matter. The organic matter is things like plants, animals, and their waste. As the carbon travels between the deeper mantle and the surface, it interacts with different parts of the Earth's environment, like water, rocks, and plants. Eventually, the carbon finds its way back to the mantle and the cycle starts over. The deep carbon cycle is a way of keeping the amount of carbon in balance all the time.
