ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deep-frying

Deep-frying is like cooking food in a very hot swimming pool of oil!

It's like when your mom or dad cooks chicken nuggets or french fries in a pan filled with oil. They heat up the oil until it gets really hot (like when you go outside on a really hot day), and then they put the food in the oil to cook it.

The hot oil makes the outside of the food super crispy and yummy, but it also makes it really hot, so you have to be careful not to burn yourself.

After the food is done cooking, your mom or dad will take it out of the oil and put it on a paper towel or something to soak up any extra oil. Then you can eat it and it will be crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside!
