Degenerate energy levels

Degenerate energy levels are something that happens in a special kind of situation. Imagine a box full of cookies. Every cookie has its own energy level, with some being higher than others. Now, imagine that two of the cookies have the exact same energy level! That means that those two cookies have the same amount of energy, so we say they have degenerate energy levels.
