ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Degloving

Degloving is when the skin on your body is pulled off, like a glove being pulled off of your hand. It can happen in accidents where you get trapped and the skin is pulled away from the muscles and bones underneath.

Your skin is like a protective shell around your body, and it's attached to the deeper tissues underneath. When something pulls it away, it can be very painful and dangerous. The skin has blood vessels and nerves that help your body work properly, so if they get damaged or pulled away, it can be very bad.

Doctors might need to do surgery to fix a degloving injury, which could involve putting the skin back in place or even using skin grafts (taking skin from somewhere else on your body and putting it where it's needed). It's important to be very careful to avoid these types of injuries, and always wear protective gear when doing dangerous activities.
