Demerara window

Okay kiddo, a Demerara window is a special type of window that's usually in houses in the Caribbean. It's named after a place called Demerara, which is in South America.

Now, the window is usually shaped like a rectangle, but it's made up of two parts. The top part is a regular rectangle, but the bottom part is a sort of half-moon shape. You might think it looks like a smiley face!

This window is different from regular windows because it's not made of glass. Instead, there are wooden slats, or bars, that let air and sunlight in. The slats can be adjusted and moved up or down depending on how much air or light someone wants.

People usually use Demerara windows because they're really good for keeping houses cool. This is especially important in the Caribbean because it's often very hot and humid! By letting the breeze come through, the window can cool down a room without needing to use air conditioning.

So there you have it, a Demerara window is a type of window with wooden slats that helps keep a house cool in a hot climate!
