ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Demonizing the enemy

Demonizing the enemy means making the person or group you don't like seem very, very bad. It's like saying they are monsters or villains in a story. Imagine if you were playing a game of superheroes, and there was a bad guy who was stealing toys from all the kids in the park. In the game, the bad guy might become a "bad guy" who has all sorts of evil powers, likes to hurt people and is really scary. When people demonize a real enemy, they are trying to make others scared of them, hate them or think they are evil, like the bad guy in the game. This makes it easier to fight against them or convince others to fight against them. However, it's not always fair or accurate to demonize someone or a whole group of people, just because you don't like them. They might not really be that bad, and your actions could even be harmful to them or others.
