Demotion

Demotion means when someone is moved from a higher or better job to a lower or worse job. It's like when you are playing a game and you get moved down a level. It happens when someone's boss thinks they are not doing a good job or when there are not enough good jobs available. When someone gets demoted, they usually get paid less and have less responsibility. It can feel really bad because it feels like they have lost some of their importance at work. But it can also be a chance for them to learn and improve so they can do better in the next job they have.
