Deportation of the Kalmyks

Okay, kiddo! So a long time ago, in a country called Russia, there was a group of people called the Kalmyks. They had their own culture and language and lived in a place called Kalmykia.

However, during World War II, things got really tough in Russia. The Kalmyks were accused of not being loyal to Russia and were seen as a threat. So, the Russian government decided to deport (which means forcibly move) them to another place called Siberia.

This was really hard for the Kalmyks because they had to leave their homes, families, and everything that was familiar to them. They were sent on long and dangerous journeys, often without enough food or warm clothing. Many people got sick or died along the way.

When they finally got to Siberia, things were also really tough. They had to live in camps and weren't allowed to leave. They were forced to work for the government and had very little freedom.

After many years, some of the Kalmyks were allowed to return to their homeland. But by then, things had changed a lot. Many of their traditions and way of life had been lost, and their land had been taken over by others.

So, deportation was a very difficult and unfair experience for the Kalmyks. It caused a lot of suffering and changed their lives forever.
