ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Design Web Format

Okay, so imagine you have a piece of paper and you want to draw something on it. You think about where you want to draw it and what colors you want to use. Then, you start drawing your picture.

Designing a web format is kind of like drawing a picture but it's done on a computer. Instead of a piece of paper, there's a big blank page on the computer screen that you can use to design a webpage.

First, you need to decide what the webpage is going to be about, just like deciding what to draw. Some websites are about things like cooking or sports or music, and so they have different colors and styles to make them look interesting and fun.

Then, you need to use a special tool called a web design program to create your webpage. This program lets you add things like pictures, buttons, text and colors to the blank page on the computer screen. Just like with drawing, you have to think about where you want everything to go, and how you want it to look.

When you're done designing the webpage, you save it and it becomes a special code that can be shown on the internet. This special code tells the internet what your webpage should look like, just like a recipe tells someone how to make a cake.

That's pretty much it! Designing a web format means creating a webpage on the computer using special tools and then saving it as a code so other people can see it on the internet.
