ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Design science

Design science is like playing with building blocks. You start with an idea or a problem and you try to solve it by building something new or by improving something that already exists. When you build, you use your creativity and your imagination to make something that is both useful and beautiful.

Design science is a way for people to use science and engineering to make the world a better place. Scientists and engineers who specialize in design science use their knowledge and skills to create products, services, or systems that can solve problems or meet needs. They might build a new machine, design a new software program, or create a better way to organize data. Whatever they create, it must be based on scientific principles and be tested and evaluated to make sure it works as expected.

Just like playing with building blocks, design science is a process. You start with an idea, create a plan, build a prototype, test it, and improve it until it meets your goals. You might work on this process with a team of people who bring different skills and perspectives to the table. The end goal is to create something that is functional and efficient, as well as aesthetically pleasing and easy to use.

When you use design science, you are not just making something pretty. You are also using science to create solutions to real-world problems. You might help people stay healthy, protect the environment, or make work easier and more efficient. Design science is a powerful tool that can help us create a better future for everyone.
