ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Determiner phrase

A determiner phrase is a group of words that helps us understand which thing or person we are talking about. It always starts with a word that tells us the number or kind of thing we are talking about, like "the" or "a." For example, if we say "the cat," we know we are talking about a specific cat and not just any cat. The words that come after the starting word can be an adjective, which describes the thing or person, or a noun, which is the name of the thing or person. So, a determiner phrase helps us be clear about the thing or person we are talking about by giving us important information at the beginning.
