Diabetes mellitus

Alright kiddo, so let's talk about something called "diabetes mellitus." Diabetes is a owie in your body that can make it hard for your body to use sugar for energy. You see, your body needs a special hormone called insulin to help move sugar (also known as glucose) from your blood into your cells, which is where your body uses it for energy.

But in people with diabetes, their body doesn't make enough insulin or can't use it very well. This can make their blood sugar levels too high, which can cause problems with their body.

There are two main types of diabetes. The first type is called Type 1 diabetes. This type of diabetes means that your body doesn't make any insulin at all, and you need to take insulin medicine to make up for the low levels of insulin. Type 1 diabetes usually starts in kids or young adults.

The other type of diabetes is called Type 2 diabetes. In this type, your body still makes insulin, but it doesn't use it very well. Type 2 diabetes is more common in adults, but sometimes kids can get it too. People with Type 2 diabetes might need to take medicine to help their body use insulin better, but sometimes they can control it with exercise and eating healthy foods.

If someone has high blood sugar levels because of diabetes, it can make them feel really sick. They might feel tired, thirsty, need to pee a lot, or have blurry vision. If someone has diabetes, it's very important that they take care of their body by checking their blood sugar levels, taking their medicine, eating healthy foods, getting lots of exercise, and seeing their doctor regularly.
