Dichotic listening test

Okay, so let's pretend we are going to a party where there is a lot of loud music and people talking. When we listen to someone talking to us, we have to focus on their voice and ignore all the other sounds around us. That's called selective attention.

A dichotic listening test is like a game that helps us practice selective attention. We wear headphones and different sounds or words are played in our ears at the same time, but in different ears. For example, we might hear "apple" in our right ear and "banana" in our left ear.

The goal of the game is to pay attention to only one sound and ignore the other. We might be asked to repeat back what we heard in only one ear, or to pay attention to a specific sound even if it's in a different ear.

Scientists use this game to study how our brains process language and sounds. It helps us understand how we filter out distractions and focus on what's important. And it's like a fun party game for our brains!
