Dickin Medal

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of a medal before? It's usually a special thing someone gets when they do something really good or brave.

Well, the Dickin Medal is a special medal given to animals who have done something really brave or helpful in war or during a natural disaster. It was named after a lady named Maria Dickin who loved animals and wanted to make sure they were recognized for their important roles in these situations.

Animals like dogs, cats, horses, even pigeons and rats have all received the Dickin Medal for things like carrying important messages or finding people in danger. It's a way to say thank you to these special animals and show how much we appreciate what they do.
