ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Die cutting (web)

Have you ever seen a machine that cuts shapes out of paper or cards? That's called a die cutting machine. Imagine a bigger version of that machine that cuts big sheets of paper into smaller shapes. This is the die cutting (web) process.

Now imagine that instead of cutting just one shape at a time, you cut many shapes at once. These machines use a big roll of paper or other materials, which is called a "web". The machine pulls the web through, and as it does, a special machine (called a "die cutter") stamps down on it and cuts out many shapes.

The shape that is cut out is determined by the shape of the cutting tool, or "die". Dies are specially made, and can be in many different shapes and sizes. They can be simple, like a square or circle, or more complex, like a star or heart.

Die cutting is used to create lots of different things, from packaging materials to stickers to product labels. It's a really efficient way to make lots of identical shapes quickly and accurately.
