Differentiated services (also called DiffServ) is a way for networks to provide different kinds of services to different people or things. If you think of a network like an airplane, DiffServ is like asking for a first-class ticket or a seat in the back. Differentiated services will make sure that the traffic going to someone flying first-class gets priority over other traffic, so their stuff gets there faster and is sent more reliably. This way, people in different parts of the cabin can get different levels of service so that everyone is happy.
