Digestive system

The digestive system is like a long tube inside our body. Food goes in one end and goes all the way through until it comes out the other end. Our digestive system is made up of different parts.

First, food starts in the mouth, and gets chewed by our teeth. Then it goes down the esophagus (throat) to the stomach. In the stomach, the food breaks down into smaller parts. From the stomach the food moves to the small intestine. The small intestine breaks down food even more, and takes out important things like vitamins, minerals, and proteins.

Next, the food moves to the large intestine. Here, the body gets rid of things it doesn't need, like water and waste. The waste leaves the body through the rectum and comes out as poop!

So, the digestive system helps us break down food, and get the important things our bodies need, while getting rid of things it doesn't need.
