ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Digital Light Processing

Digital Light Processing (DLP) is like playing with shadows and lights, just like a game of shadow puppets. Imagine you have a room with lots of walls, and you want to make a big picture on one of them. Instead of painting it, you use lots of little mirrors that can move really fast.

These mirrors reflect light towards the wall that you want to make your picture on. The light goes through a color filter so that it looks like the picture we want to display on the wall.

But how does it work? First, the picture is turned into a bunch of tiny dots called pixels (like in Minecraft). Then, each pixel is given a color and a brightness level. A light shines really bright on these tiny mirrors, and they either move towards the wall or away from it.

When a mirror is moving towards the wall, it lets the light through, and when the mirror is moving away from the wall, it blocks the light. This creates a pattern of light and dark that makes up the picture.

So, in short, Digital Light Processing is a way to create big pictures by using lots of tiny mirrors that move really fast to make different shapes and colors on a wall by reflecting light, just like a game of shadow puppets.
