ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Digital recording

Imagine you have a toy that can play music. Usually, when you want to record a new song or sound, you would have to use a microphone to capture the sounds and save them onto a tape or record.

But in digital recording, instead of using tapes or records to store the sounds, we use computers. A computer is like a magic box that can store a lot of information. When you sing, play an instrument, or make any other sound, it travels through a microphone and gets turned into a digital signal. This signal is like a secret code that the computer can understand and store.

The computer saves this code as 0's and 1's in a special file. It then uses these 0's and 1's to play back the sound whenever you want to listen to it again. This way, you can easily create, edit, save, and share your music or sounds with others.

Digital recording is great because it allows us to make high-quality recordings, store them for long periods of time, and easily edit or manipulate them later. It's like having a magic toy that can store all your music and sounds forever!
