Dear little friend,
Do you remember watching TV with an antenna that sat on top of the roof of your house? Well, that's how people used to watch TV before. But now, things have changed and we're talking about digital switchover.
So, what does digital mean? It means that the TV signals are changed into computer language, which makes it easier for the signals to travel around and be received by your TV. Digital signals also make pictures and sounds clearer and more colourful.
Now, the switchover part means that all the TV stations have decided to stop sending their old, analogue signals and start sending digital signals instead. This means that people with older TVs that rely on those older signals won't be able to watch TV anymore unless they upgrade to a TV that can receive digital signals - something like a fancy computer.
The government helps people who can't afford a new TV by giving them special boxes called digital converters. These boxes help the older TVs receive the new digital signals.
So, now that you understand it, you can sit back and enjoy watching TV with all the cool new digital features!
Isn't that just great?
