ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Digital video recorder

A digital video recorder, or DVR for short, is like a magic box that lets you record TV shows or movies so you can watch them later. It's like having a personal video library!

When you turn on your TV and connect it to a DVR, you can tell it to record your favorite show or movie. Once it's recorded, you can watch it anytime, even after it's already aired on TV.

That's because a DVR can store many hours of movies and TV shows on a hard drive, sort of like a very big memory card. So, you can watch these recordings whenever you want, again and again, without worrying about missing an episode.

Some DVRs also let you pause or rewind live TV. This means if you have to go to the bathroom or answer the phone while watching a show, you can simply press "pause" and come back to it later. You can also skip commercials if you recorded the show, fast forward or rewind to your favorite parts, and slow down or speed up the playback.

All of these features make a DVR very convenient and easy to use. You'll never miss your favorite TV show again because you can record it with a digital video recorder. It's like having your own personal TV assistant!
