Dilution equation

Imagine you have a glass of your favorite drink. But, it's too strong and you want to make it weaker. You can do this by adding more water to your drink. The amount of water you add to your drink will make it less concentrated, or diluted.

Now, the dilution equation is a way to figure out how much water you need to add to get the right amount of dilution. To use the dilution equation, you need to know the concentration of the drink you have and how much water you want to add.

Let's say you have 1 cup of juice that has a concentration of 50% (this means half of the drink is juice and the other half is water). You want to make it weaker by adding water. You want to end up with 2 cups of drink that has a concentration of 25%.

To use the dilution equation, you can write it like this:

(concentration of original drink) x (volume of original drink) = (concentration of diluted drink) x (volume of diluted drink)

So, using the numbers from our example we have:

0.5 x 1 cup = 0.25 x 2 cups

Now, we can solve for the volume of water we need to add:

0.5 x 1 cup = 0.25 x (1 cup + v)

0.5 = 0.25 * (1 + v)

0.5 = 0.25 + 0.25v

0.25 = 0.25v

v = 1 cup

So, we need to add 1 cup of water to our 1 cup of juice to get 2 cups of a weaker drink with a concentration of 25%.

And that's how the dilution equation works!
