ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Disk encryption

Disk encryption is a way of keeping the information on your computer safe. It does this by turning all the information on your computer into a secret code or secret language so that only you can access it. The way it does this is by encrypting or scrambling the data on your computer so that things like passwords or private information can't be read by anyone who doesn't have the secret code or key that unscrambles it. Hopefully no one other than you knows this key so that your information stays safe and secure.
