ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dispatching

Dispatching is like playing with toy cars. You have many toy cars and each one has to go to a different place. So, you pretend to be someone who tells the toy cars where to go. In real life, there are people who do this job for real cars and trucks. They are called dispatchers.

A dispatcher is someone who tells drivers where to go and what to do. They use a computer and a phone to talk to the drivers. They also use maps to show the driver the best route to take.

Imagine that you have a toy car and your friend has another toy car. Your friend wants you to bring your toy car to his house. So, your friend calls you on the phone and tells you the address of his house. You then tell your toy car to go to your friend's house. That's just like when a dispatcher tells a driver where to go.

Now, imagine that your friend also wants you to pick up some toy blocks on the way. So, you tell your toy car to go to the toy store and pick up the blocks. Then, you tell your toy car to go to your friend's house. That's just like when a dispatcher gives a driver multiple stops to make during their trip.

Dispatchers help drivers get to where they need to go safely and efficiently. They make sure that the driver doesn't waste time driving around or get lost on the way. That's why it's so important for them to do their job well.
