ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dissected plateau

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about something called a "dissected plateau." Imagine you have a piece of cake, but this cake is really big and looks like a flat plateau. Now, sometimes this cake gets cut by rivers and streams running through it over long periods of time, just like when we cut a cake with a knife. This is called erosion.

The rivers and streams keep cutting into the cake, dividing it into smaller pieces and creating valleys and ridges, just like when you cut the cake and create smaller pieces. These small pieces of cake now look like individual hills and cliffs that are all over the place.

And that's what happens to a dissected plateau - it is a flat area of land that has been cut into smaller pieces by rivers, creating valleys and ridges that make it look like a jumbled puzzle. So now you know that a dissected plateau is just like a cake that has been cut into smaller pieces by rivers!
