ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

legislative sessions

Legislative sessions are times during the year when national, state, or local governments come together and make laws. This means they come together to discuss and vote on policies that will affect us all. They do this so that everyone can have a say in the way our society runs. For example, they might talk about what taxes should be used to pay for roads and schools, or decide which laws should be put in place to keep us safe. Legislative sessions help make sure that what is decided is fair and works for everyone.
