Dodo

The dodo was a big bird that lived a long time ago on an island called Mauritius. It was a bit silly-looking because it was quite fat and couldn't fly, but it had big strong legs which helped it walk and run.

When people first came to the island many years ago, they started to hunt the dodo for food and also because they thought it was interesting. Unfortunately, they hunted the bird so much that it eventually disappeared forever.

Nowadays, scientists study the bones and other things left behind by the dodo so that they can learn more about what it was like and what might have happened to it. It's a sad story, but it reminds us how important it is to take care of the animals and plants that live on this planet so that they don't disappear like the dodo did.
