Doric dialect (Scotland)

So, you know how sometimes people talk different? Like when you go to different places or even talk with different people from your own place? It’s because they have their own way of saying things - this is called a dialect.

In Scotland, there’s a dialect called the Doric dialect. This is how some people in the north-east of Scotland talk. It’s like they have their own special words and way of saying things that other people might not understand.

For example, in Doric, instead of saying “hello”, they might say “fit like?”. And instead of saying “goodbye”, they might say “cheerio”. They also say things like “bairns” instead of “children” and “foon” instead of “phone”.

Even though the words might sound different, it’s still English! Just like how you might talk different with your friends or family, but it’s still the same language.
