ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Double album

Have you ever played with blocks and tried to build a really big tower? Sometimes, you have so many blocks that you need to separate them into two piles to make it easier to build. That's kind of like what happens with music sometimes.

When an artist makes a lot of songs - more than could fit on one CD or record - they might decide to split them into two piles, or two "sides." That's what a double album is: two albums put together, but packaged and sold as one big album.

Double albums usually have a lot of songs - maybe 15 or 20 on each side - so there's a lot of music to listen to. Because there are so many songs, double albums often have different themes or styles of music on each side. It's almost like the artist is saying, "Alright, here's some of my happy music on Side A, and now here's some of my sad music on Side B."

Sometimes, a double album can be really special because it's a chance for an artist to show off all their different talents and styles in one place. So if you see a double album at the store, know that it's not just one album - it's like two albums stacked on top of each other, and you're getting twice as much music to enjoy!
