ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Double-talk

Double-talk is when someone says something that sounds like it means one thing, but really means something else entirely. It's like if your mom says, "We'll go get ice cream if you clean your room," but then she never takes you because she actually meant, "We'll go get ice cream next month."

People who use double-talk usually do it because they don't want to say the truth, or they want to trick you into thinking something different from what they really mean. It can be confusing and frustrating when someone uses double-talk, because you might have a hard time figuring out what they actually mean.

It's important to listen carefully to what people say and try to understand what they mean, even if they use tricky language like double-talk. And if you're not sure what someone means, don't be afraid to ask them to explain it more clearly!
