ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Drying (food)

When you want to keep food for a long time, like for camping or hiking, you can dry it. You take the moisture out of the food so it can last longer. Imagine you have a piece of fruit, like an apple. Normally, it’s juicy and has water in it, so it can get moldy and bad after a few days. But if you cut the apple into thin slices and leave them in the sun or use a special machine to dry them out, the water goes away and the apple becomes dry and crispy. This way, the apple can be stored for many months without going bad! So, drying food is like making a healthy snack that lasts a long time.
