Duplex (building)

Imagine you have a big box of Legos that you can use to build a house. Instead of building one big house, you decide to build two smaller houses that are stuck together. These two houses have their own front doors, and they look like two separate houses from the outside.

In real life, these kinds of houses are called duplexes! They are usually built side by side, with a wall in the middle separating the two units. Each unit has its own kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. They can be bought or rented by two different families, or even just one family that wants a lot of space.

Because the two units are built together, they share some things, like the roof and the foundation. But they also have different things, like their own electrical and plumbing systems. Duplexes can be a great way for people to have their own space while still living close to their friends or family members.
