Dust devil
Do you know when you see a tornado in movies or pictures? Well, a dust devil is kind of like a mini-tornado, but it's not as dangerous.
So, when the ground gets really hot on a sunny day, the air above it starts swirling around. And if there's a little bit of dust or dirt on the ground, the swirling air picks it up and carries it up in the sky. That's how a dust devil forms!
It looks like a skinny column of dust or sand dancing around in circles. It can be as tall as a person or as high as a building. And it moves around quickly but only for a short distance.
So, if you ever see a dust devil, it's okay to watch and enjoy it from a safe distance. Just don't get too close, because it can blow things around and cause a little bit of damage.
