ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dutch withdrawal from the European Union

So imagine you're in a club with a lot of other friends. The club is called the European Union (EU) and it's like a big group of countries in Europe that get together to do things together, like trade with each other and make some rules that everyone has to follow.

But sometimes, some friends in the club might decide that they don't want to be in the club anymore, like when you don't want to play with your toy anymore and you put it away. And that's what the Netherlands (also called Holland) might be thinking about doing - they might want to leave the European Union club (also called "Brexit").

But leaving a club is not easy, it's like moving out of your house - you have to take all your things with you and it can be very hard. The same thing happens with a country that wants to leave the EU. They have to decide how they want to trade with the countries that are still in the club and follow different rules than before.

So right now, the Netherlands is still thinking about leaving the EU, but it hasn't happened yet. And if it does happen, it will be a big change for everyone, just like when you move to a new house or start at a new school.
