Dynamic topography

Okay kiddo, do you know what a map is? It's a drawing that shows where places are in the world. But have you ever wondered if the land and the water on the map are always at the same spots? The answer is no!

There's something called dynamic topography, which means that the surface of the Earth can move up and down over time. It's like a bumpy ride on a roller coaster, but instead of going up and down quickly, the land and water move slowly.

This happens because of things like tectonic plates moving, which is like big pieces of the Earth's crust sliding around. When one plate moves over another, it can cause the land to go up or down.

Another thing that can affect dynamic topography is the weight of things like ice caps and mountains. When there's a lot of weight on top of the Earth's surface, it can push the land down. And when the weight is removed, like when the ice caps melt, the land can move back up.

So, dynamic topography means that the Earth's surface is always changing, even if we don't see it happening right in front of us. Pretty cool, huh?
