ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

E-check

An e-check is like a check that you use to pay for things, but it’s done online.

Instead of writing out a piece of paper and signing it, you type in the important information (like the amount of money you want to pay and who you want to pay it to) on a special website.

Then, instead of a bank teller processing your paper check, a special computer program called an “ACH network” handles the money transfer.

Basically, the ACH network moves the money from your bank account to the person receiving the payment, just like a normal check.

But because it’s all done online and by computer, it can be much faster and more convenient than writing out and mailing a paper check.
