ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

East Frisian language

East Frisian is a language that some people speak in a place called East Frisia, which is in the northwestern part of Germany near the North Sea. It's a very special language because it has words and grammar rules that are different from other languages that are spoken around it.

To give you an example, let's imagine you want to say "I am going to the store" in English. In East Frisian, you would say "Ik geihen no da Ladder" which sounds different and has different words.

It is important to note that not everyone in East Frisia speaks this language - many people speak German instead. It's kind of like how in some places in the United States, people might speak Spanish or French instead of English.

In recent years, there has been some concern that the East Frisian language is dying out because not many people are learning it or using it anymore. However, there are still some people who are working to preserve the language so that it can continue to be a part of East Frisian culture.
