Eastbourne Redoubt

Imagine there is a big castle on a hill in a town called Eastbourne. This castle is called a fort and it was built a long time ago to protect the town from invasions. The fort is made of strong bricks and it has a lot of walls around it. These walls have holes in them, which are called gun ports, where soldiers could shoot their weapons and protect the town.

The fort is also called a redoubt, which means that the soldiers can retreat inside it if they are attacked. The redoubt was built during a time when people were afraid of other countries attacking them. So, the people in Eastbourne wanted to make sure they were safe and built this redoubt to protect themselves.

Nowadays, the redoubt is a museum, where people can go and visit to learn about the history of Eastbourne and what life was like for soldiers living and working there. It’s a place where people can see what it was like to live in a fort and how soldiers used to defend their town.
