Eastern bloc was a group of countries in Europe and Asia that were strongly influenced by the former Soviet Union after World War II. They included countries like Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, and others. The Soviet Union wanted these countries to follow their government and economy, so they kept close control over them. The governments of these countries were often called "communist" governments, although they weren't the same as the Soviet Union. The governments of the eastern bloc were closed to outsiders and the citizens of these countries were not allowed to travel to other countries.
