ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eastern Orthodox Church organization

The Eastern Orthodox Church is like a big group of friends who all believe in God and love Jesus, but they have a special way of doing things that's different from other Christian groups.

At the top of the organization is the Patriarch, who is like the boss or leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church. He lives in a special city called Constantinople (now Istanbul) and is chosen by other important leaders in the church.

Under the Patriarch are different bishops who lead different regions or cities. They wear special clothes and live in big churches called cathedrals.

Each bishop has a group of priests who help him in his region. The priests are like the helpers who talk to God and the people every day. They also do special things like baptizing babies, blessing weddings, and forgiving sins.

People who go to the Eastern Orthodox Church are called parishioners or members, and they go to their local church to pray, sing, and learn about Jesus.

Overall, the Eastern Orthodox Church is like a big family with a leader (the Patriarch), bosses (the bishops), workers (the priests), and members (the parishioners) who all believe in God and Jesus and help each other on their journey to be good people.
