ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Economic violence

Economic violence is when people are treated unfairly or meanly because of their money, or when money is used as a weapon to control or hurt other people.

Think about when you play with toys with your friends. If your friend is mean to you and won't share their toys, that's not very nice, right? But imagine if you were playing with your friend and they took all of your toys and wouldn't let you play with them at all. That's even meaner, isn't it?

Well, economic violence is kind of like that. When people have money, sometimes they use it to make other people unhappy. They might not give other people a fair chance to make money too. Or they might use their money to control other people, like by only letting their friends or family get jobs, or by making people do things they don't want to do in order to get money.

It's not fair to treat people this way. Everyone deserves a chance to make money and to be treated nicely no matter how much money they have.
