An edict of government is kind of like the rules that parents make for their kids to follow. But instead of parents, it is the people in charge of a whole country that make the rules, and everyone who lives in that country has to follow them. Edicts can be about lots of different things like how fast we can drive, when we need to wear seat belts or helmets, how much we need to pay in taxes, and even who can vote. The government makes these rules to help keep everyone safe and fair, just like parents make rules to keep kids healthy and safe.
