Education in ancient Greece
In ancient Greece, kids went to school just like you do! However, there were some differences. Kids were mainly homeschooled by their moms or had a private tutor. Only the rich kids went to school outside of their homes.
The main subjects in Ancient Greece were reading, writing and math. Also, they learned about history and philosophy which was a way of thinking about life and the world around them.
But, the lesson was not the same as the classroom like yours. Kids learned by listening to their teachers speak and asking questions. They didn’t have books like you do, there were no computers, projectors, or iPads. They used a stylus and wax tablet to write on and then erased it so they could use it again.
Only boys went to school, girls were not allowed which is pretty sad. It was believed that girls could learn all they needed to know at home from their moms, like spinning, weaving, and cooking.
