ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Education in the United States

Okay, kiddo, today we're going to talk about education in the United States!

So, in the U.S. when kids turn about five or six, they start going to school. They usually start in elementary school, which is like a big building with a bunch of classrooms. They might stay in the same classroom all day, or they might switch rooms for different subjects like math, reading, and science.

After they finish elementary school, they move on to middle school or junior high, which is for kids around age 11-13. Middle school is usually in a different building, and they might switch classes a lot more than in elementary school.

After that, they go to high school, which is for kids around age 14-18. High school is much bigger than elementary or middle school, and they usually have lots of different classes to choose from like history, English, art, and sports. High school is where kids start to think about what they want to do when they grow up.

Sometimes, after high school, kids will go to college. College is like a big university where you can take classes on all kinds of different subjects. Some people go to college to become doctors, lawyers, or scientists! College can be very expensive, so some people might get scholarships or financial aid to help pay for it.

At the end of all this, you'll know lots of cool things and be able to do all sorts of neat stuff!
