Have you ever played dress up? Edward Kynaston loved to dress up too! But he did it for a job. He was an actor a long, long time ago, when people used to watch plays in big theaters.
Now, in those days, only men were allowed to act on stage. So when a play needed a woman's character, like Juliet, they would have to use a man dressed up in women's clothes, like a wig and a dress.
Edward Kynaston was very good at playing women characters in plays. He was so good that people would come from far away just to watch him dress up and act like a woman! In fact, he was so famous that the king even made a law that only he could play those roles.
But one day, they changed the law and said that women could act too. This meant that Edward Kynaston didn't have a job anymore because people wanted to see real women play those roles instead. So, he had to find a new job and he became a theater manager instead.
