A Put and a Call are different types of stock options. When you buy a Put option, you have the right to "put" (or sell) a certain amount of stock. When you buy a Call option, you have the right to "call" (or buy) a certain amount of stock. For example, if you buy a Put option for 100 shares of a company, you can sell those 100 shares of stock at a certain price. If you buy a Call option for 100 shares of a stock, you can buy those 100 shares of stock at a certain price.
