Eighty Years' War

A long, long time ago, there was a big argument between some countries in Europe. The countries were called the Netherlands and Spain. They were fighting over who should have control over the land and people in the Netherlands.

This argument went on and on for eighty years! Yes, you heard that right, eighty whole years!

During these eighty years, there were many battles and fighting between the two sides. The people in the Netherlands didn't want to be ruled by Spain because they had different beliefs and ways of doing things. They wanted to be their own country with their own rules and leaders.

Despite the fighting and hardships, the people in the Netherlands were very brave and determined. They were led by a man named William of Orange, who became a hero for fighting for their freedom. Eventually, after many battles, the Netherlands became its own country and Spain gave up its control over them.

To celebrate their independence, the Netherlands created a special day called "Independence Day", which is still celebrated every year on July 4th. And that's how the eighty years' war ended!
