ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eisegesis

Eisegesis is like when you try to fit a puzzle piece where it doesn't belong. You have a picture in your head and you want it to fit, so you make it fit, even if it doesn't match.

Similarly, when you read a book or a bible, you may have a certain idea in your head about what it means. So, you try to make the words match with what you want to believe, instead of understanding what the words are actually saying. This is eisegesis.

For example, if you read a book about horses, and you want to believe that horses can fly, then you might try to interpret the words to mean that horses can fly. But, that's not what the book is actually saying.

It's important to read and understand what is actually being said, instead of trying to make it fit with what you wish it said.
