Ejaculatory duct obstruction

Ejaculatory duct obstruction happens when there is a blockage in the tube that carries semen from the testicles out of the body.

When a man gets excited, his testicles produce a fluid called semen, which carries little sperm cells that help make babies. This semen travels through tiny tubes called the vas deferens and into the ejaculatory ducts.

Now, the ejaculatory ducts are important because they connect the vas deferens to the urethra, which is the tube that carries pee out of the body. So, when a man ejaculates, the semen comes out of his penis through the urethra.

But, if there's a blockage in the ejaculatory ducts, the semen can't get out. This can cause a lot of problems for a man. For one, he won't be able to make babies because the sperm can't get out of his body. And, he might also have pain or discomfort in his testicles or when he tries to pee.

There are a few things that can cause an ejaculatory duct obstruction. Sometimes, it's just a birth defect - meaning the ducts didn't develop properly when he was growing in his mother's belly. Other times, it can be caused by an infection or inflammation in the tubes, like from a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

To fix an ejaculatory duct obstruction, a doctor might try different treatments depending on what's causing the blockage. For example, if it's an infection, he might give antibiotics to help clear it up. If it's a birth defect, he might need surgery to fix the blockage.

It's important to talk to a doctor if you think you might have an ejaculatory duct obstruction because it can cause problems down the road if left untreated.
